    Application
Potassium osmate(VI) dihydrate is a violet crystalline powder primarily used as a catalyst in oxidative reactions. Its main purpose is to facilitate the cleavage of olefins into ketones and carboxylic acids. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in the intramolecular amidohydroxylation of carbamoyloxytethered olefins to produce hydroxy oxazolidinones. This compound is also a key reagent in the synthesis of amphidinolide B, a substance known for its significant antitumor properties against various human tumor cells. As an oxidant, potassium osmate(VI) dihydrate is characterized by its diamagnetic nature in the VI oxidation state and presents as a purple salt. It is water-soluble, though it gradually decomposes in aqueous solutions, and it remains insoluble in ethereal and alcoholic solvents.
