Application
Manganese(II) chloride hydrate serves as a versatile catalyst and reagent in various chemical reactions and preparations. It is primarily utilized as a starting material for organomanganese chloride reagents. In conjunction with organolithium (RLi) or Grignard (RMgX) reagents, it effectively catalyzes the reduction of vinyl and aryl halides, facilitates the stereoselective coupling of vinyl iodides, and enables the alkylation of enol triflates. Additionally, this compound is instrumental in manganese-copper-catalyzed conjugate addition of RMgX to enones and manganese-catalyzed acylation of RMgX by acyl chlorides. When combined with sodium borohydride (NaBH4), it acts as a diastereoselective reducing agent. Manganese(II) chloride hydrate is also employed in the preparation of manganese enolates with regio- and stereo-selective characteristics.
