Application
Fluorinated carbon, characterized by its grey powder form and velvety black appearance, serves as a versatile material with a structure similar to graphite. Comprising flat carbon layers with fluorine atoms attached above and below, its composition ranges from C3.6F to C4F. This material exhibits stability in the presence of acids, bases, and common organic reagents. With a resistivity of 2-4 ohm cm at 750 kg/cm², it finds purpose in a variety of applications, including cathodic materials, lubricants, image recording, pressure-sensitive copying, and carbon filament incandescent lamps. While it is generally stable, it slowly decomposes when exposed to prolonged heating above 100°C and deflagrates when rapidly heated over a flame, leaving behind soot-like flakes.
