Application
2,2'-Biquinoline serves multiple key functions in various chemical applications. It is primarily used as a reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of copper, where it forms yellow-green charge-transfer complexes when used as an indicator in titrations involving organolithium reagents. Also known as a cuprous reagent, it reacts with monovalent copper ions to produce a distinctive purple color, making it highly selective for cuprous ion determination. Additionally, 2,2'-Biquinoline acts as a ligand in synthesizing heteroleptic copper(I) complexes for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and in creating cationic iridium(III) complexes used as phosphorescent dyes for live-cell imaging.
