In perovskite solar cells, phosphorylcholine chloride serves as both an interface modifier and a defect passivation agent. When applied to SnO₂ electron transport layers, it effectively reduces oxygen vacancies and enhances both conductivity and electron mobility. These improvements lead to better film morphology and device stability under ambient conditions. When co-assembled with molecules such as Me-4PACz, it improves surface coverage, suppresses leakage current, and promotes the growth of high-quality perovskite films.

Its multifunctional groups—phosphate, chloride, and quaternary ammonium—cooperatively address defects at both the metal oxide and perovskite interfaces.
