Cl-2PACz, formally known as 2-(3,6-dichloro-9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethylphosphonic acid, is a halogenated self-assembled monolayer (SAM) material engineered for high-efficiency optoelectronic applications. It features a 3,6-dichloro-carbazole end group, a phosphonic acid anchoring group, and an ethyl spacer, enabling strong and stable bonding to conductive surfaces such as indium tin oxide (ITO).

Serving as a hole-selective interfacial layer, Cl-2PACz has proven to be a highly effective alternative to PEDOT:PSS in both non-fullerene organic solar cells (NFA-OSCs) and p-i-n structured perovskite solar cells. Its halogen-substituted carbazole structure supports strong noncovalent interactions—such as Cl···S and Cl···π contacts—enhancing both intra- and intermolecular packing, which promotes more efficient hole extraction and charge transport across the interface.
