Chemical Structure of Br-2EPT

Br-2EPT is a high-purity self-assembled monolayer (SAM) molecule incorporating a dibromo-substituted phenothiazine unit, an ethyl spacer, and a phosphonic acid anchoring group. It is designed for solution processing to form uniform, ultrathin monolayers on transparent conductive substrates such as ITO or FTO, functioning as an efficient hole transport or extraction layer in both organic and perovskite solar cells.

In perovskite optoelectronic devices, Br-2EPT ensures favorable energy-level alignment at the electrode interface, which reduces nonradiative recombination and energy loss. The bromine atoms help lower the HOMO level and enhance the open-circuit voltage, while halogen bonding with the perovskite surface and defect passivation by sulfur atoms improve interfacial contact and charge transfer.

Offering a promising alternative to PEDOT:PSS, Br-2EPT combines superior device performance and long-term stability with compatibility for low-concentration ethanol-based solution processing. It is particularly suitable for use in p-i-n structured perovskite solar cells and non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) organic photovoltaics.
