Telluric acid, 98%, serves as a crucial chemical compound with diverse modifications and thermal properties. It exists as colorless crystals that are stable in air and can take on either a monoclinic or cubic form. The monoclinic form is more common in large crystals, while microcrystalline powders often feature a blend of both forms. When heated between 100°C and 220°C, telluric acid transitions into a water-insoluble polymetatelluric acid. Further heating beyond 220°C leads to decomposition into TeO3 and eventually into TeO2 and O2 at 400°C or higher. Within a sealed tube, it melts at roughly 136°C, yielding a concentrated aqueous solution that contains primarily polymetatelluric acid with some polyorthotelluric acid. Additionally, telluric acid is recognized as a tellurium oxoacid and acts as a conjugate acid of hydrogentellurate. Its unique crystalline structure and thermal behavior make it significant for various chemical applications and studies.
