Application
Polyamide is a versatile synthetic polymer created through the chemical bonding of an amino group from one molecule and a carboxylic acid group from another, resulting in a macromolecular structure linked by amide bonds. Its structure, featuring repeating units bonded by the characteristic CO-NH amide linkage, can be synthesized from amino acids or their derivatives. This polymer finds utility in many applications, most notably in the form known as nylon, appreciated for its toughness and solvent resistance, making it ideal for protective coatings and textiles. Additionally, when polyamide chains incorporate a high percentage of phenyl rings, they are classified as aramids, which differ from standard nylon in their structure and properties. Both variants of polyamide-linear as nylon and aromatic as aramids-serve in distinct roles, such as durable yarns and low-voltage insulation, respectively, with uses extending into high-temperature environments.
