Hexamethyldistannane serves as a versatile reagent in organic synthesis, primarily utilized for preparing various aryl tin compounds. It is pivotal in microwave-assisted Stille cross-coupling with halo pyridines and in the copper-mediated O-arylation of phenols. Functioning as a raw material, it facilitates the production of other compounds through its reaction with 1,3-dienes to produce dimerization-double-stannation adducts with notable regio- and stereo-selectivity, aided by a catalytic quantity of bis(dibenzylideneacetone)palladium. Furthermore, it exhibits high yield in synthesizing allytrimethylstannanes from a wide array of allylic compounds, such as allyl acetates and allyl halides, when palladium complexes are present. Hexamethyldistannane also facilitates direct stannylation of halopyridines and bipyridines via Pd catalysis and can be added to 1-alkynes to form (Z)-1,2-Bis(Trimethylstannyl)-1-Alkenes in the presence of a palladium complex.
