1,3-Bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene (TPE-R) serves a versatile purpose in the development of advanced materials. This light yellow powder, characterized as a phenyl ether derivative with terminal anilines, is primarily utilized in the preparation of polyimide materials. TPE-R can combine with BPDA to produce polyimide oligomer (Oligo-PI) resins, which feature controlled molecular weights and an amorphous structure, enhancing the processability of composite materials. In addition, TPE-R can be copolymerized with other monomers, such as PEG, to create fuel cell membranes that exhibit both high ionic conductivity and excellent thermal stability. Furthermore, TPE-R, when used with titanate nanotubes, contributes to polyimide composites suitable for electromagnetic shielding applications at microwave frequencies. As an aromatic ligand, TPE-R is also useful in forming coordination metal polymers with various transition metals, which are effective for nitroaromatic compound sensing. Finally, TPE-R reacts with polydimethylsiloxanes to form sec-amides and cross-link, establishing two distinct networks, namely a siloxane-organic network and a silica network.
