Application
Bapta is a white solid and polyamino carboxylic acid that acts as a selective extracellular calcium (Ca2+) chelator. It is structured with bis(carboxymethyl)nitrilo groups attached to C-2 and C-2' of 1,1'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)]dibenzene, making it specifically designed to bind calcium ions outside of intact cells. Due to its efficacy as a calcium sponge, Bapta is a valuable tool for investigating the role of extracellular calcium in cellular signaling processes. Additionally, some forms of Bapta are labeled with 19F, which allows for precise measurement of intracellular calcium, although it remains non-permeable to cells.
