Adipicacid Dihydrazide serves as a versatile cross-linking reagent, primarily utilized for linking aldehydes to create stable hydrazone bonds. This homobifunctional reagent is particularly effective in site-specific conjugation of glycoproteins-like antibodies-through periodate oxidation. The reactions are optimally conducted at pH 5.0, leveraging the low pKa of the hydrazide to minimize interference from primary amines. Adipicacid Dihydrazide also finds extensive application in water-based paint emulsions alongside diacetone acrylamide. Due to its weakly alkaline nature, it tends to agglomerate when in solid form; therefore, it is recommended to dissolve it in hot water prior to use.
