This white crystalline compound has been examined for its dielectric properties, particularly when used in combination with 4'-octyloxy-4-biphenylcarbonitrile in composite liquid crystals. Its proposed applications extend to the development of thermo- and electro-optical devices such as optical shutters, smart windows, optical sensors, memory devices, and flexible displays, as well as phase array optics where it can serve as switchable birefringent phase shifters.
