Application

3-Hexylthiophene is a colorless transparent or light yellow liquid primarily used as a foundational reagent in the synthesis of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). This polymer serves as a critical component in the development of organic electronic devices, particularly in the creation of poly(3-hexylthiophene) nanofibers for organic phototransistors (OPTs). As the most extensively studied polymer for polymer solar cells, P3HT plays a pivotal role in advancing solar technology. Solar cells utilizing a P3HT/PCBM composition traditionally achieve efficiencies of around 4-5%. However, with the advent of novel fullerene materials that better align with P3HT's energy levels (HOMO 5.0 eV, LUMO 3.0 eV), performance efficiencies have improved to approximately 6.5%.
