Application
3,3'-Dihydroxybenzidine serves as a key organic synthesis intermediate with versatile applications. It is primarily utilized in the creation of covalent organic frameworks, contributing to the development of metamaterials for optical devices. Additionally, this compound is integral in the synthesis of fire-resistant polymers, specifically polyhydroxyamino acids. It plays a crucial role in formulating hydroxyl-containing polyimides, which remain soluble in NMP when heated. These polyimides exhibit impressive thermal properties, with glass transition temperatures ranging from 336-360°C, independent of the tetracarboxylic dianhydride structure, ensuring maintained storage modulus at elevated temperatures. Remarkably, upon heating to 500°C for an hour under vacuum, all such polyimides undergo thermal transformation into polybenzoxazole, underscoring their thermal resilience.
