Alcoholic reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) dispersion polymerization of 2-(perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate (FBEMA) extends the general availability of semifluorinated methacrylates to polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA).
· The monomer conversion reaches 90% within 11 h, while the corresponding semi-logarithmic plot shows two distinct regimes: the rate of polymerization is relatively slow for the first 3 h, while a dramatic increase in the rate is observed in the following 8 h (Figure 1a).
· Both the two regimes of the curve represent pseudo-first kinetics, suggesting good control of the RAFT polymerization.
· Mn of these block copolymers increases with the monomer conversion, and the dispersities are <1.30 for all the copolymers (Figure 1c).
