Application
Tris(Trimethylsilyl) Borate (TMSB) is a versatile compound primarily used in organic synthesis and as an additive for lithium battery electrolytes. Its purpose is to enhance the performance and longevity of high-voltage cathode materials, such as LiMn2O4, LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2, LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, and Li[Li0.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13]O2, by increasing their cycle performance. Additionally, TMSB serves as an effective electrolyte additive, significantly extending the cycle life of LiMn2O4 and LiFePO4 cathode Li-ion batteries at elevated temperatures like 55 °C. One of the key advantages of TMSB over alternatives like tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphate (TMSP) is its ability to form a B and Si-rich CEI film that effectively inhibits the growth of interfacial resistance during battery cycling. TMSB facilitates the complexation with Li+ ions, which diminishes the intermolecular forces between these ions and the ethylene carbonate solvent, thus improving overall cycle performance. Moreover, it alters the Li+ solvation structure, resulting in the formation of a thin, dense CEI film containing Si-O and B-O bonds, optimizing Li+ ion transfer.
