Application
Paraffin liquid, a form of light mineral oil, is a clear and colorless liquid primarily used for its emollient properties in various applications. It is virtually tasteless and odorless when cool, developing only a slight odor upon heating. This liquid is utilized predominantly as an excipient in topical pharmaceutical formulations, particularly in ointment bases, where its soothing qualities are beneficial. Additionally, paraffin liquid serves a vital role in ophthalmic formulations and is a component of oil-in-water and polyethylene glycol/glycerol emulsions. In pharmaceuticals, it acts as a solvent and lubricant for capsules and tablets, aids as a solvent and penetration enhancer in transdermal preparations, and provides an oily medium for drug microencapsulation. Beyond its medicinal applications, paraffin liquid is also employed in cosmetics and certain food products.
