Application
Disperse Orange 3 serves as a versatile azo dye used to impart color to acetate, nylon, silk, wool, cotton, and even in stocking dye applications. Recognized by its red to dark brown powder form, this compound is characterized by its azobenzene structure, featuring amino and nitro groups at specific positions. While it is useful in textile dyeing, particularly for polyester, acetic acid fibers, nylon 66, acrylic fibers, and in certain hair dyes, caution is advised due to its potential to cause contact dermatitis among textile industry workers and sensitization in hairdressers. In terms of chemical properties, it presents as an orange to yellow-red powder with a melting point of 210-220°C and is soluble in solvents like ethanol, acetone, and toluene. Its color shifts in various conditions, appearing brown in strong hydrochloric acid and turning orange-red in nitric acid. Beyond its application in dyes, it offers certain fastness properties, holding up against ironing, light exposure, perspiration, and washing, with varying degrees of resistance to fading and staining as outlined by ISO standards.
