Application
Allyltrimethylsilane, a clear, colorless liquid, serves as a versatile reagent essential for incorporating allyl groups into various chemical structures such as acid chlorides, aldehydes, ketones, iminium ions, and enones. It plays a pivotal role in cross-coupling reactions with diverse carbon electrophiles. Notably employed in the Hosomi-Sakurai reaction, allyltrimethylsilane efficiently facilitates allylation in the presence of Lewis acids, reacting with compounds like cyclohexanone to form 1-allylcyclohexanol. Its role as a nucleophile extends to participating in the Carbon-Ferrier rearrangement and Lewis acid-catalyzed reactions, where it displays a nucleophilicity approximately ten times greater than propene. This reactivity is highlighted by its interactions with diarylmethyl cations and a variety of cationic carbon electrophiles, often enhanced by a Lewis acid or fluoride ion catalyst. Allyltrimethylsilane also engages in fluoride ion-catalyzed reactions with aldehydes, ketones, and α,β-unsaturated esters, forming silyl ether intermediates typically hydrolyzed prior to completion. Its application spans reactions with electrophilic alkenes, carbonyl compounds, azo compounds, and singlet oxygen, yielding vinylsilanes in ene reactions influenced by solvent choice and devoid of silyl group loss.
