It features rapid polymerization capabilities, resulting in high molecular weight polymers, and can form ester linkages through reactions with hydroxyl groups. Its ability to self-assemble into supramolecular materials adds to its versatility. However, impurities can influence the polymerization process and thus must be carefully removed. Due to its hydrophobic nature, 2-Methacryloyloxy-2-methyladamantane requires a sublimation process for patterning. This compound can be used as a guest molecule on silicon substrates, forming supramolecular composite surfaces through interactions with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). This novel host-guest interface leads to enhanced surface properties, improving wettability, water lubrication, and resistance to the adhesion of algal cells, paving the way for the development of efficient water-based lubrication and antifouling materials.
