Application
1,6-Diaminohexane serves as a versatile chemical building block, primarily used as a monomer in the production of nylon 6-6 through the creation of its salt with adipic acid, commonly known as nylon salt. This compound undergoes thermal dehydration under vacuum to form the durable nylon polymer. Beyond its critical role in nylon manufacturing, 1,6-diaminohexane, also known as hexamethylenediamine, is integral to the synthesis of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), which is widely used in the production of polyurethane coatings and as a cross-linking agent in epoxy resins. Its applications extend into the creation of specialty chemicals such as biocides and petroleum additives, where its properties enable enhanced performance in water treatment and purification processes. As a hygroscopic, colorless solid with a slight fishy odor, 1,6-diaminohexane finds further use in the preparation of high polymers, including polyamides, and in various chemical reactions typical of aliphatic amines.
