This clear to faintly yellow liquid is pivotal in the regio- and stereoselective synthesis of polyols through intramolecular hydrosilation of allyl, homoallyl, and homopropargyl alcohols. Additionally, TMDSZ is valued in the plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (ICP CVD) process, acting as a single-source precursor to synthesize amorphous hydrogenated silicon carbonitride (a-SiCN: H) thin films. The effectiveness of TMDSZ in this process is due to its specific chemical structure, which facilitates the formation of methyl radicals through the cleavage of its Si-CH3 bonds. These radicals then engage in short-chain reactions, crucial in the synthesis of various products. In contrast, alternative compounds like HMDSZ, lacking the Si-H bond, do not yield the same results, highlighting the unique capabilities of TMDSZ in both synthetic and material applications.
