    1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroaluminate is an ionic liquid that can be prepared by reacting 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride with aluminum chloride hexahydrate. It can be used as an efficient catalyst in tetrahydropyranylation of alcohols, and detetrahydropyranylation of THP (tetrahydropyranyl) protected ethers.
