Application
Tert-Butyl Methacrylate Monomer, stabilized with MEHQ, is primarily utilized in the synthesis of both homo and block copolymers through atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), and serves as a key raw material component in the production of versatile polymers. As an ester of methacrylic acid, it features a reactive methacrylate group and a cyclic hydrophobic group, facilitating its copolymerization with various compounds such as (meth)acrylic acid and its derivatives, acrylonitrile, and styrene, among others. It can also be employed in emulsion polymerization processes similar to other acrylates, such as Butyl Methacrylate. This monomer is highly valuable in chemical synthesis due to its ability to undergo addition reactions with many organic and inorganic substances, contributing properties like chemical resistance, adhesion, hydrophobicity, hardness, scratch and heat resistance, high solids content, and enhanced weatherability, making it suitable for applications in coatings, biomaterials, and flocculants.
