    Polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-polystyrene is a versatile material with a density of 1.04 g/mL at 25 ℃, and its primary purpose is to serve as a crucial component in a variety of industrial applications. It can exist as a solid or viscous liquid, depending on the degree of polymerization. This polymer is extensively utilized in hot melt adhesives, sealants, asphalt, and oil gels. Additionally, it acts as a modifier in polymers, thermosets, and general rubber compounding. Its adaptability extends to direct molding or extrusion processes, making it suitable for manufacturing auto parts, sporting goods, footwear, and films. Known for its superior properties as a synthetic rubber, it is predominantly used in numerous applications, consuming four times more than its nearest competitor, polybutadiene, and 1.5 times more than all other elastomers combined. This material is produced through the copolymerization of three parts butadiene and one part styrene, facilitated by the presence of a soap or detergent, a peroxide initiator or catalyst, and a chain-modifying agent like dodecyl mercaptan in an emulsion form.
