Application

Polyphenylenesulfide is a versatile polymer known for its remarkable thermal stability and robust mechanical properties, maintaining its performance even at temperatures up to about 250°C. This polymer is typically processed by injection molding to achieve a crystalline structure, aided by its high glass-transition temperature of 90°C, requiring heated molds. Its strong solvent resistance makes it impervious to all common organic solvents and immune to most acids and alkalis, except for concentrated sulfuric acid. With excellent electrical insulation capabilities, Polyphenylenesulfide finds widespread use in manufacturing electrical components, automotive parts, and processing equipment subjected to corrosive environments. Additionally, it can be transformed for advanced applications, such as forming a sulfonated version to create proton exchange membranes with enhanced thermal stability for solar cells or developing organic-inorganic nanocomposite membranes for high-performance gas separation using nanozeolites and carbon nanotubes as nanofillers. This polymer can also be modified into novel fibers with improved dyeing abilities for various dyes through sulfonation and chloromethylation.
