Composed of long chains of carbon atoms surrounded by fluorine atoms, PTFE is highly stable, resistant to heat, insoluble, and chemically inert. These properties stem from the strong fluorine-to-carbon bonds and the repellent nature of fluorine atoms, which contribute to PTFE's low coefficient of friction, making it difficult for substances to adhere to its surface. Furthermore, PTFE's resistance to extreme heat and chemical exposure makes it suitable for applications requiring durability, such as in bearings, valve seats, gaskets, coatings, and tubing. It can also be used for coating objects to prevent adhesion, and its excellent electrical properties make it an ideal dielectric material in high-temperature environments.
