Application
Poly(methylhydrosiloxane), trimethylsilyl terminated, serves as a versatile and practical reducing agent due to its ease of handling, cost-effectiveness, and non-toxic nature. While it remains relatively inert to organic groups, it efficiently transfers its hydride to various metal catalysts like Sn, Ti, Zn, Cu, and Pd, enabling these catalysts to engage in diverse reduction reactions. Additionally, when activated to a hypercoordinate state by fluoride or other nucleophiles, it can act as a direct reducing agent. This makes it an appealing alternative to more expensive or hazardous silanes or siloxanes, particularly as a stoichiometric reductant in catalytic organotin-mediated processes.
