n-Octyltriethoxysilane serves as a hydrophobization agent primarily used in limiting the coalescence of solid-stabilized emulsions This medium-chain alkylfunctional silane a clear colorless liquid soluble in non-polar organic solvents acts as an effective surface modifier to impart hydrophobic characteristics to materials such as concrete glass inorganic pigments and mineral fillers When mixed with suitable solvents n-Octyltriethoxysilane can be utilized to create water-repellent formulations These formulations when properly applied penetrate and react chemically with cementitious substrates to provide enduring water repellency while maintaining the original appearance of the treated surface By forming a self-assembled monolayer it offers a hydrophobic coating with reduced surface energy achieving a water contact angle typically between 150° and 170°
