Application
Iodopentoxide is primarily used as a strong oxidizing agent with the purpose of converting carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, a process which is efficient for quantitative gas analysis and carbon monoxide removal from the air, especially in respirators. This transformation, known as Ditte's reaction, is rapid at temperatures of 65°C or higher but proceeds more slowly at room temperature. Additionally, Iodopentoxide can efficiently oxidize various substances, such as hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide, and it reacts with water to produce iodic acid, illustrating its versatility.
