Application
Indium(II) chloride is a white, hygroscopic crystalline powder recognized for its catalytic capabilities in aqueous organic reactions, including C-C bond formation and aldol reactions. Its decomposition in water produces indium(III) chloride and elemental indium. With a melting point of 235°C and decomposition occurring below this temperature, it serves as an effective and mild Lewis acid for organic synthesis. Indium(II) chloride also facilitates thioacetalization and demonstrates chemoselectivity, making it ideal for catalyzing enantioselective ring-opening of meso-aziridines with thiols. Furthermore, it efficiently catalyzes the preparation of furyl glycosides in water.
