Application
Galbanum is a unique product derived from the resinous exudate of Ferula gummosa and Ferula rubricaulis species native to Iran. This exudate is collected from cuts made in the roots of these plants, and it serves as the source for both galbanum oil and galbanum resinoid. Galbanum oil is produced through steam distillation, resulting in a yellow liquid renowned for its green, slightly spicy, and balsamic aroma. This oil is rich in monoterpene and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, along with various terpene alcohols and their acetates, which contribute to its distinctive scent profile. It is frequently used in perfumery to create fresh, green top notes. In contrast, the galbanum resinoid is obtained by extracting the gum using a nonpolar solvent, maintaining excellent fixative properties that are also leveraged in fragrance compositions. With its aromatic, spicy, and somewhat bitter characteristics, galbanum plays a significant role in enhancing the depth and complexity of perfumes.
