Application
Dimethyltitanocene (5% in Tetrahydrofuran/Toluene) is a versatile reagent characterized by its orange to dark red hue, featuring low basicity and acidity, which makes it particularly effective for the methylenation of carbonyl compounds. It excels in methylenating highly enolizable ketones, esters, and lactones, including more sensitive substrates such as aldonolactones and those that are acid-labile. Beyond its methylenation capabilities, this reagent's homologs are adept at performing carbonyl alkylidenations. It also reacts with alkynes and nitriles and is capable of initiating the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of strained cyclic alkenes. In addition, bis(cyclopentadienyl)dimethyltitanium, a component of this product, serves as a valuable precursor for Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalysts and acts as a cocatalyst for alkene metathesis, as well as a catalyst for alkene hydrogenation and the dehydrogenative coupling of silanes.
