Dimethyl Acrylamide (DMA) is a versatile colorless liquid used primarily in the synthesis of photoresponsive polymers. Its high reactivity and low initiation temperature make it an ideal candidate for copolymerization processes. DMA is utilized in the creation of copolymers by grafting polysiloxane on its side chains through homopolymerization or forming cellulose polymers by grafting cellulose. Additionally, it can be copolymerized with methyl methacrylate, styrene, or butadiene. This nonionic monomer is essential in producing copolymers with N, N-dimethyl-N, and N-diallyl ammonium chloride, which serve as effective polymeric flocculants for water treatment applications. With its unique structure, DMA enhances hydrogels, enabling them to form three-dimensional networks capable of retaining water, making them suitable for removing toxic metal ions from wastewater. This is due to DMA's chemical stability, high adsorption capacity, and ability to increase the molecular weight of copolymers, thus improving flocculation processes.
