Application
Dibasic Lead Phosphate serves as a stabilizer for styrene and casein plastics and is also used in the production of special glasses. While this compound appears as a white powder or colorless crystals, it is notable for its solubility in acids and alkalis, though it remains insoluble in water and alcohol. It can dissolve in nitric acid and solutions containing fixed alkali hydroxides. Upon heating, Dibasic Lead Phosphate decomposes, releasing toxic fumes that contain lead and phosphorus oxides. It is important to note that, while there is evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals, there is inadequate evidence in humans, although it is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. Despite its utility in certain applications, caution is advised due to the limited toxicological data available on this compound.
