It is particularly valued for its enhanced cell voltage and solubility in polar solvents compared to its predecessor, the N3 dye. N719 dye is applied to indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates using the doctor blade technique and is compatible with a variety of photoanode materials, including titanium oxide (TiO2), zinc oxide (ZnO), and gold nanourchin. This makes it one of the most prevalent and high-performance dyes available for DSSC applications, crucially contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of harvesting solar energy.
