Application
Cycloheptene serves as a versatile component in organic chemistry, notably used in the one-pot synthesis of 1,2/3-triols from allylichydroperoxides, a reaction facilitated by zeolite-confined osmium(0) nanoclusters. As a raw material, it plays a crucial role in both organic synthesis and polymer formation. In addition, cycloheptene, as a nonconjugated unstrained olefin, undergoes photodimerization catalyzed by copper (I) triflate alongside other cycloalkenes like cyclopentene and cyclohexene. This colorless, oily liquid is flammable, with a molecular weight of 96.2, a boiling point of 115°C, and a flash point ranging from 23°C to 27°C. While it poses a low health hazard, it is highly flammable and stable, as indicated by its NFPA-704 M rating. Notably, cycloheptene is insoluble in water.
