Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride purified to 98% is a light-colored solid that serves as an advanced commercial product designed to enhance the performance of conventional polyvinyl chloride. This modification, achieved through chlorination, significantly improves the material's corrosion resistance and allows it to endure operating temperatures up to 20-30°C higher than standard PVC. As a result, CPVC is extensively employed in applications requiring robust material properties, such as piping, fittings, ducts, tanks, and pumps, where it effectively handles highly corrosive liquids and hot water. Its chemical resistance has been proven superior to that of regular PVC through exposure tests in environments containing high concentrations of acids like acetic, chromic, nitric, and sulfuric, as well as alkalis such as sodium hydroxide and solvents like hexane, under varying temperatures.
