Possessing a remarkable hardness of 9.3 on the Mohs scale and a Knoop hardness of about 27 GPa, it is less brittle than most ceramics and remains stable even in oxygen flames, making it an ideal abrasive. Beyond its abrasive qualities, Boron Carbide Nanopowder finds usage in the production of wear-resistant and semiconductor films, especially when used as a sputtering target with 99.5% purity. It is also utilized in complex applications such as fabricating heat-resistant parts through processes like hot pressing and sintering, and as a component in advanced composites for superior ballistic performance. Its unique properties, such as strength at high temperatures and corrosion resistance, make it an attractive material for the encasement of spent nuclear waste, among other specialized uses.
