3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA) is a colorless transparent liquid that serves as a functional comonomer in the preparation of polymers such as polystyrene latex in emulsion polymerization. It is commonly used in conjunction with other monomers to create coating, adhesive, and sealing agents with superior adhesion and durability. This hydrophobic monomer can be grafted onto plastic surfaces, thanks to its acrylate functional group, improving mechanical properties in composite materials made from unsaturated polyester. TMSPMA undergoes first-order kinetic polymerization to form polyTMSPMA, a moisture-stable polymer essential for various industrial applications.
